Introduction
Writing a script for a YouTube video is not as difficult as one might think, now It does take some time and practice, but it can be done and In this article, we'll walk through the process step-by-step so that you can write your own script and get started on your next video.
Find The Right Keyword For Your Video
The first step is to do keyword research for your youtube video and you have to make sure the keywords have decent search volume and relevance to the topic of your video, but also be easy enough to rank on YouTube.
To find keywords that are relevant, you can use keyword research tools like Morningfame, VidIQ, Tubebuddy, and even the youtube search bar, and these tools help you understand the demand for certain keywords and how much competition there is from other videos that use the same term in their titles, which is very helpful and I show you how to do that in this video below.
Identify The Search Intent For The Viewer
The first step to writing your script is to figure out what the person who is searching for your keyword wants, and how you can help them get their needs met and this will help you decide what information to include in your video, as well as how much time to spend on each section of the video.
You want to make sure that whoever watches your YouTube video has already done at least some research on the topic before watching it, so they already have some knowledge of what they’re looking for before they click on yours and I break down how this is done below.
Create Bullet Points Based On Keyword Intent
The first thing you'd want to do is create bullet points based on the keyword's intent and the way you do this is to start by listing out all of the major things that need explaining, then go through each bullet point and see if there are any subtopics within each one that could use their own bullet lists as well and keep doing this until all of the main points have been covered by multiple bullet lists with smaller subtopics under them like I show you in the visual below
Start With A Compelling Hook
The first thing you need to do is write a compelling hook that instantly grabs the viewer's attention, and conveys why they should continue watching.
For example, let's say that a user searches for "how to write scripts" on YouTube. If they click on your video because of your title or description, but then it turns out not to be what they're looking for, then it's very likely that they will never come back again.
Your script needs an interesting hook so that viewers can immediately figure out if this is the right video for them and your first sentence to be interesting enough so viewers want more (e.g., by asking questions). However, you also don't want it to be too long and especially not boring.
Answer these questions to help you develop your hook
- What do people want from this video?
- What are their specific problems?
- What information could help them solve those problems?
Make sure these questions will make sense at the beginning of each section within your script as well because it'll keep things organized and easier for viewers who may find themselves lost later on in the video due solely because there wasn’t anything guiding them beforehand and In the video below I share some of the best youtube hook formulas to increase your audience retention.
Solve The Problem They Clicked On The Video For
Once you've figured out what their problems are, you should start writing a script that helps them solve those problems as quickly as possible and the best way to do this is to already have experienced what they are going through yourself so that way you can give genuine advice to be able to really provide true value and I go in-depth on this topic in this video so take some time to check it out otherwise keep reading.
Give A Compelling Call To Action
You can also include a call to action at the end of your video and link out to another video, lead magnet, or product you recommend that you know will truly help them.
You’ll want your call to action to be specific so that people know exactly what they’re supposed to do next and also make sure you are very confident in the way you speak while giving that call to action, so your viewer can feel better about what you're recommending them to do and I show you how this is done in this video below.
Rehearse The Video
It may sound obvious, but practicing your video is an important step in the process of creating it because not only does it help you be more prepared for when it comes time to record your video, but it also gives you the opportunity to work out any potential issues with pacing or delivery.
It's also important to be able to visualize what the finished product will look like because this will help you stay motivated and focused on your end goal, which is a well-produced video.
Conclusion
